Cargo Deck Crane

A cargo deck crane, also known simply as a deck crane or ship's crane, is a type of crane specifically designed and installed on the deck of a ship or a vessel. These cranes are used primarily for loading and unloading cargo from the ship, although they may also serve other purposes such as moving heavy equipment or containers within the ship's deck area.

Types of Cargo Deck Crane
  • Telescopic Boom Cranes: These cranes feature a telescopic boom that can extend and retract to reach cargo at different distances and heights. They are versatile and commonly used for general cargo handling.
  • Knuckle Boom Cranes: Knuckle boom cranes have an articulated arm with multiple joints, allowing for greater flexibility in cargo handling and positioning. They are often used in confined spaces or when precise cargo placement is required.
  • Gantry Cranes: Gantry cranes are stationary or self-propelled cranes mounted on rails or tracks on the ship's deck. They are used for loading and unloading containers in container terminals or on container ships.
  • Jib Cranes: Jib cranes have a horizontal arm (jib) that extends from a vertical mast, providing a wide range of motion for cargo handling. They are commonly used in smaller vessels or for specialized cargo handling tasks.
